Gary Jones/Dave Pitchford (Toyota Corolla) took their second successive rally win when they were declared winners of the Barcud Road Rally. However unlike their triumph on the Pacemaker the previous month, this victory was decided by their smaller engine size - eleven crews finished the rally clear of any penalties and a tie break was used.

The Tregaron based event saw 71 crews tackle a 98 mile route, much of the first half of which used the tracks in the Twyi Forest. The second half used the lanes to the south and west of Tregaron, but despite this eleven crews completed the entire route without falling behind their time schedule. The matter was then decided by the engine capacity recorded on the entry form.

Jones/Pitchford were duly declared the winners, a suitable reward as they reached the finish despite a failing gearbox on their Corolla. Wayne Pickergill/Dylan Evans were given the runner up spot, their Peugeot 205 losing out by seven cubic centimetres.

Two Semi-Expert crews were amongst those with clean sheets – Barry Davies/Mark Davies in an 1600cc Escort were placed third, while Gary Thomas/Phillip Ralph (Vauxhall Astra) were awarded fifth.

In 1998 Martyn O'Connor/Peter Collins had won the Barcud event on an engine capacity tie-break, in 2003 they found, of all the crews with clean sheets, they had the largest engine; they were therefore classified in eleventh place.

Top seeds Gareth Jones/Darren Garrod (Ford Escort RS2000) were one of a number of crews who picked up just a few seconds penalty as they entered regularity time controls slightly off their time; there total was 3 seconds, one second from one ITC and two from another.

Ian 'Dude' Roberts/Brynmor Pierce (VW Golf GTi) and Kevin 'KJ' Jones/Matthew Maidement (Ford Sierra 4x4) lost time after picking up punctures in the forestry. The latter crew were later excluded for a give way offence, as were Mark Lloyd/Delyth Morgan (Peugeot 205 GTi).

Mark Price/Roger Evans (Ford Escort) finished in 52nd place; they picked up a fail after booking in early at a time control. Glyn Price/Iwan Jones lost seven minutes after a fire in their Escort, they finished in 44th place.

There was a close battle for the Novice class win, with Gareth Thomas/Edwin Venville (Peugeot 205) taking first place, with Paul Williams/Roger Harris (Vauxhall Astra) just fifteen seconds behind.
