Buglass Trophy Rally 2004

Berwick & District Motor Club

21st/22nd February 2004

Clerk of the Course: Robin Scott

Route: 90 Miles

Maps: 75 & 81

Starters: 21

Winners: Chris Dodds/Richard Holdsworth (Peugeot 205 Rallye)

Chris Dodds/Richard Holdsworth (Peugeot 205 Rallye) took victory on Berwick & District MC’s Buglass Trophy Rally.

The event saw crews tackling a 90 mile route in northern Northumberland. The rally consisted of eleven sections. It used three whites and two fords, those at Abbeywick and Evlinson.

James Tyson/Neil Harrison finished the rally with the least time penalties, they’d dropped just four minutes, but a missed code board meant that fifteen minutes was added to their total and put them in the runner up spot. Holdsworth was a last minute substitute in the role of Dodds’ navigator, but this didn’t prevent them from having a clean run and finishing with a comfortable winning margin.

Andy Whittaker/Charlie Tynan were another crew to miss a codeboard, they finished in third. Top seeds Malcolm Holdsworth/Chris Pringle failed to start the rally after the driver went down with a bout of flu.

The Newcomer and Historic class crews were provided with easier navigation and were therefore classified seperately to the main event. John Straughan/John Rowley (Colt) won the well supported Newcomer Class. Stuart Bankier/David Alexander (Volvo Amazon) took a clear win in the Historic category, on what was the navigator's first road rally in 20 years.

Nineteen of the twenty-one starters made it to the Finish; Neil Morrison/Matt van de Mere were one of the retirements, forced out when the navigator became unwell.
