Nigel Nelson/Martin Saunders took a clear win on the CSMA (North Western) Rally. They finished the 170 mile event two minutes ahead of top seeds Bill Chadwick/Tom Wilcox.
On such a popular rallying weekend, the rally struggled for both entries and marshals. Only 16 cars started the National B event and seven the Club Sport section, the latter ran alongside the first 140 miles of the main rally, with crews being given fully marked maps. The route design allowed the best use of the marshals available and all key controls were manned.
Dave Chapman/David Taylor finished third, their major problem of the night coming when they found that the very latest edition of Map 97, which they had, didn't show a road that was on all previous versions.
Howard Price/Chris Webber came in fourth after a 10 minute wrong slot. David Howell/Stephen Taylor led at first petrol but fell back to tenth at the Finish.
Terry Martin/Paul Taylor missed a code board cost after cleaning the first card; they finished in sixth place.
Beaver Rally winners Dan Robinson/Ian Gibbins were a significant non-starters as the navigator was unwell.
F1000 regular Rob Eastwood was navigated to the Club Rally win by Martyn Taylor; they finished 30 minutes ahead of their nearest rivals.
