The first time pairing of Martin Betts/Graham Raeburn narrowly beat Ian Ainsworth/Paul Taylor to first place on the Cossack Road Rally.
The Eastwood MC event had originally been scheduled for November but route availability problems with the MoD at RAF Barkston Heath meant that it had been put back to December.
Betts/Raeburn dropped time only once in the first half, on the second visit to Barkston Airfield, this gave them a lead of 25 seconds at Petrol. Ainsworth/Taylor led briefly when they cleaned a section timed to the minute and Betts/Raeburn missed their time by three seconds. However the matter was decided on the sting in the tail, a series of tracks around Wellingore Heath near the Finish, where Betts took over a minute back to secure victory by 28 seconds.
Dan Robinson/Ian Gibbins were third having been close to the leaders’ pace all night. While Andy Baker/Pat Cooper took fourth place, after earlier matching the fastest times.
Top seeds Richard Chown/Mark Wagstaff were lying in third when they suffered a broken drive shaft on their 205. They limped to the Finish and were the last classifed finisher.
Nick Toplis/Mick Fern finished in seventh after struggling with a new tyre choice on the Vauxhall Nova.
