The final round of the Welsh Championship had attracted 46 starters to what was a very well received event. The rally was based in Builth Wells and took in a 109 mile route in the Welsh Border area.

Morris/Middleton encountered the cable problem at the very end of a competitive section and were therefore able to carry out repairs without losing any time. They went on to win the rally, with a victory margin of just nine seconds over Glyn Price/Steve Herbert.

Andrew Sheppard/Justine Brooks rounded off the top three, with Alyson Acreman/Byron Jones finishing in fourth.

Gerwyn Jones/Ceri Davies had led the eventual winners by one second at the halfway point, but a puncture in the second half cost them four minutes and they dropped to fifth place at the Finish. However this result was enough to secure the Welsh Championship Navigators' crown for Davies; Jones having taken the Drivers' title on the penultimate round, the Malky.

Neil Bevan was the only rival who could have denied Davies the series win, but he and driver John Davies had a troubled night and could only finish in fourteenth place.

Gary Jones/Andy Oakes had been in the title race until the Malky, on the Greenleaves they were the last placed crew after a disastrous event. A navigational error saw them miss out a loop in the first half, this meant that they booked in five minutes early at the next time control.

Derwyn Evans/Dave Evison finished just one place in front. Their Vauxhall Nova had struggled all night with a misfire and they only just made Petrol within their time limit.

Herbert’s second place strengthened his grip on the West Midlands navigators’ championship, where there was one round to go. Meanwhile Ian 'Dude' Roberts, who finished in sixth, now led the AWMMC drivers’ table. The final championship round was the Holrus in late November.

Adam Holder/Simon Harris finished in seventeenth place to secure the Semi-Expert Class, while Timothy Evans/Kate Jones won the Novice class on what was the navigator’s first ever rally.
