Harvest Rally winners Roger Hunt/Graham Dance made it two wins on the trot by taking a clear victory on North Devon MC's Ilfracombe Rally. The Barnstaple based event used a 140 miles of icy Devonshire lanes, the most tricky and treacherous parts being in the Hartland area.
Hunt/Dance were never headed, they were the only crew to clean the opening sections, they finished eight minutes ahead of their nearest challengers.
Richard Cann/Mark Sheppard took the runner up spot to secure the ASWMC championship for the driver, while Perry Roe navigated Simon Robinson to ninth place to claim the navigator's title.
Ian Orford/Bob Jones had held second place at the halfway point but parked their Proton in a hole later on; they'd shortcut a hairpin and hit the hole, the sumpguard took the impact and bent the chassis forward of the strut. A spectator with a tow rope managed to straighten it enough to pull the bent parts clear of the power steering pulley, but it would need a jig to repair the car.
The 2004 winners Paul Swindells/John Stringer retired at Petrol when their Triumph TR7 lost oil pressure.
An Historic Rally, the penultimate round of the HRCR Nocturnal Challenge, ran alongside the modern event. First place in this category had to be decided on a furthest clean tie breaker with Chris Jenkins/Tony Brooks finally getting the decision over Andy Lane/Paul Robinson, who had to contest the latter half of the event without spotlights after the alternator stopped charging at second Petrol.
