The event abandoned its usual territory and for 2005 the majority of the 160 mile route was within East Sussex, with the last ten sections using the notorious yellows and whites of the Pevensey Levels. The night was cold, but the roads were dry, so the freezing tempratures didn't cause the competitors too many difficulties.

The winners had been free of any penalty at the petrol halt and may have maintained this to the finish but for a snapped clutch cable. They dropped six minutes in the second half to scrape home just a minute in front of the BMW of Richard Lawley/Nick Clarke.

Lizzie Pope was a late replacement for Ben Greenfield in the passenger seat of Doug Kingsley’s Nova and the pair were rewarded with third overall and the top Semi-Expert award. This was despite being somewhat over exuberant on a byway in the first half and having to do some repair work to the front suspension/transmission at Petrol.

Like the winners, Steve Coles/Bob Blows, debutting the driver's new Peugeot 106, also had a clean sheet at Petrol, but, soon afterwards, went out with handling problems, this was after a damaged tyre was replaced with an unsuitable spare. Ian Mepham/Matt Fowle were also on the retirement list after the diff broke on their 205.

A well supported Novice class, where contenders had simpler navigation, was won by Andy Fields/Rob Fields, they dropped a total of seventeen minutes, thirteen minutes better than second novices Nick Baker/Paul Gibbs.

The only survivors of the Club event were Colin Hiscock/Christine Hiscock; they had a character-building night, but still made the finish.
