For 2005 Gwendraeth Valley MC combined the second running of the Morswyn Williams Memorial Rally with the more established Welsh Dragon Novices Rally. Between the two events, there was a capacity 75 car starting list.
Both events were of a closed to club status and used an identical route; navigation for all competitors was via good qaulity photocopied maps. The 100 mile route was split into five regularity sections.

The event started and finished at Pontyberem Rugby Club. The first section ran west and finished at Towy Castle Farm. Regularity Two used the tight lanes north of the A40, before the following section moved south of the main road around Llangynog. The fourth regularity ran roughly parallel to the first, starting near Nantycaws and finishing at Drefach. The final section started just south of Cross Hands and finished outside Pontyberem.
The fourth regularity contained the most critical control of the night - three of the top five starters picked up a fail for a wrong departure at PC26, which used the white though White Hall in 4914.
Owen Edwards/Llinos Jones, Alan James/Huw Jones and top seeds Ceri Richards/Aled Jones would have finished in third, fourth and fifth places but for the fails that they collected at PC26.
Kampschalte/Dodd, competing in a hired Impreza, led throughout the night but were chased all the way by the last minute pairing of Hefin George/Eurig Davies. Kampschalte/Dodd took fastest time on all but one of the rally's section but George/Davies were never more than a few seconds behind throughout the event.
Reigning Welsh champions John Davies/Neil Bevan were the only leading retirement of the night, they were forced out after an accident.
The novice class ran in a separate event, the Welsh Dragon Tyres Novices Rally, which used the same route. It was won by Tim Chell/James Morgan. It was the driver’s very first rally and only the second for the navigator.
