Clerk of the Course: David Coggins
Route: 110 Miles
Map: 105 & 106
Starters: 36
Winners: Martin Betts/Richard Hage (Ford Escort)
Williams Formula One technician Martin Betts took his maiden rally win on Selby & District MC's Three Swans Rally. Betts, who had 2002 winner Richard Hage on the maps, finished just fifty-four seconds ahead of novice driver Garham Reeson; Reeson was being navigated by Richard Hage’s brother Roger.
The rally was well received by competitors, with the 110 mile route testing both members of the crew, this was especially true of a sting in the tail which used a three mile series of whites in the Selby area.
Betts/Hage shared the lead with Dan Robinson/Ian Gibbins at the petrol halt, with Richard Chown/Mark Wagstaff just behind. The more testing second half sorted the contenders out, with Betts/Hage pulling clear to take the win and Reeson/Hage charging through from fourth at the halfway point to take the runner up spot at the Finish.
Stan Featherstone/Mike Ogram could only finish in 12th place after a time consuming wrong slot.
Of the 36 starters, 34 made it through to the finish.
