Despite having to push their Nova over the finish line Ian Evans/Justin Brooks took a clear win on the Wye Valley Charity Stages.

The Epynt MC event used 10 stages at the Royal Welsh Showground to give crews 30 miles of competition. Conditions were treacherous, with snow and sleet making the roads extremely slippery, all competitors complained of a lack of grip.
Evans showed his usual speed at the venue by taking fastest time on the first two stages. However on SS3 his Nova cut out and couldn’t be restarted for more than 20 seconds. It finally fired up and completed the stage. Evans then set fastest time on the next six stages to enter the last stage with a lead of over a minute. With just yards of the final stage to complete the car cut out again, Evans and co-driver Brooks had to get out and push the car over the line to secure their well deserved win.
There was a close battle for the runner up spot, Gary Thomas/Steve Pugh survived a spin, an overshoot and the lose of first gear to finally pull ahead of Pete Buckle/Dean Davies, who themselves had suffered an off on SS4.
Ed Lloyd/Eric Tong snatched fourth place and the class win on the final stage, passing Les Skeet/Ian Godney, the latter pairing having been as high as second after SS5. Daniel Jones/Kevin Lewis were also challenging for the place until their Escort’s wipers failed on SS10.
Carl Fricker was slow off the mark and was only 14th fastest on SS1, however a spirited drive saw him recover to fifth at the Finish.
Top seed Dai 'Dot' Davies had an unhappy event. He started slowly and had only just got into the top ten when a bolt broke on his car’s steering rack on SS9, he crawled through to the finish and was classified in 17th place.
Neil Price/Dawn Price had a healthy class lead when the gearbox on their Nova broke on SS4. The Darrians of both Nigel Gibbard and Brian Lee also suffered gearbox failures, Gibbard’s on the opening stage.
