Twilight Navigational Rally
6th/7th September 2008
Clerk of the Course: Steve Durbin
Route: 180 Miles
Maps: 171 & 172
Winners: Richard Jerman/Iwan Jones (Ford Escort)
Richard Jerman/Iwan Jones kept their Welsh Championship hopes alive by taking victory on a tough Twilight, their second successive series win.
The majority of the route was in Caerwent and Cwm Carn but it was the final short road section, largely using unmapped tracks, that decided the event.
With one control to go, the event was led by Mike Biss/Cath Woodman, who had been in that position since the second of the Caerwent tests. However they spent over 40 minutes trying to locate the correct route and went OTL as a result. Also in trouble were Roger Hunt/Matt Fowle, they were in third until they picked the wrong track and became stuck. They were rescued by Jamie Turner/Dan Harrison, who burnt out their clutch in the process. Turner/Harrison cut to the Finish and were placed third, however they would have almost certainly taken the win if they had not acted as the Good Samaritan.
Thus Jerman/Jones, who had been in fourth after missing code boards in Caerwent, took victory. They ensured that they were classified by taking the ten minute penalty for booking early at the final control.
Craig Nicholls/Craig Samuels survived an off in Cwm Carn to take second and the Semi-Expert Class.
