Kevin Davies/Dale Bowen secured a narrow three second victory on a tough and challenging Cilwendeg Rally. The winners took the lead on the last of the four tests that opened proceedings. They then lost it on the penultimate section when Daniel Jones/Gerwyn Barry made their minute at a control where all others dropped time.
This pair had made a slow start, the driver admitting to being rusty after a lengthy layoff and he was getting used to an unfamiliar car. As a result they were only in sixth place at the start of the road rally section.
The result was decided over the last section of the night - it covered roads around Davies’s home. He was fastest by sixteen seconds and took the win. Jones was simply pleased to have kept the margin so close and was happy with the runner up spot.
Top seeds John Davies/Eurig Davies had led initially but rolled their Astra into retirement on the infamous Cwmtudu section.
