John Paul Williams/Brynmor Pierce won the Rali Gogledd Cymru on a tie break after they and Steven John Williams/Dale Furniss finished the event on the same penalty. Both crews had dropped time at just two controls during the night; Williams/Pierce had been quickest on the first of these and thus were awarded the win.
Kevin Kerr/Dafydd Evans had led the rally right up until the last section when they were still to pick up any penalties. Unfortunately for them they lost their clean sheet when they suffered an overshoot on the run up to a vital time control and dropped to third as a result.
Andrew Jones/Max Freeman picked up a puncture in the early stages of the rally, they lost a minute but still survived to take fourth. Their delay may have had an effect on the outcome of the event as they then started the next section with Williams/Furniss behind them on the same minute. This was the section that eventually turned out to be the tie breaker.
Top seeds Tim Powley/Leigh Powley were lying in second place at the first petrol halt but a misfire slowed them in the second half and they finished in sixth place.
Iwan ‘Bont’ Roberts made a return to road rallying after a break of over twenty years, however he and navigator Steve Griffiths got only 200 yards into the first section when their 205 came to a halt with fuel feed problems. After some work they got going again. but the problem reoccurred on the second section and they retired.
