Border 100 Road Rally
Sponsored by Mick Jones Timber
Welsh Border Car Club
3rd/4th May 2008
Clerk of the Course: Iwan Jones
Route: 115 Miles
Maps: 125 & 126
Starters: 75
Winners: Glyn Price/Patrick Walsh (Ford Escort)
Once again the three local hot shot drivers dominated a Welsh Border CC event, with Glyn Price, who had Patrick Walsh on the maps, triumphing over Ian ‘Dude’ Roberts and Mark ‘GT’ Roberts.
‘GT’, partnered by Steve Price, arrived at the Petrol halt with the least time penalties, however a missed PC pushed them down the order and what would have been a third place at the Finish became 37th. This left Ian Roberts/Richard Furniss in the lead but a their Golf broke an engine mounting on the section through the sponsor’s timber yard, this cost over two minutes and victory.
Dafydd Evans/Carl Jones took third and the Expert Class award, although they may have been denied this if Neil Roberts/Graham Dance hadn’t lost three minutes with electrical problems – they finished fourth.
The requirement to test the pace of the quickest local crews meant that for many others the event was a major challenge, despite this 45 crews made it back to the Finish.
