Ecurie Cymraeg
15th May 2010
Clerk of the Course: James Chappelle, Steve Durbin & Kevin Chaffey
Route: 160 Miles + 20 Tests
Maps: 160, 161 & 171
Starters: 49
Winners: David Harris/Richard Hands (Ford Escort)
David Harris/Richard Hands won the Leukaemia having led since the earliest tests, however their position was constantly under threat from Worth Birkhill/Mark Appleton who finished second. The two crews were separated by just 36 seconds after a day long battle.
Martin Neal/Mick Briggs took third after spending most of the event having to top up the oil that was leaking from their Sprite’s gearbox.
Chris Jenkins/Dave Cooper led after the first test but fell back to fourth at the Finish but only ten seconds off third.
Two top runners, David Mustarde/Peter Blackett and Paul Hernamann/Andy Gibson, retired in the opening section. The latter crew going out with clutch failure just 100 yards into the first regularity.
HRCR Championship leaders, Roger Bricknell/Ryan Pickering, had a poor outing after picking up a Wrong Approach at a time control.
A rally for endurance cars ran alongside the main event and this saw a close three way battle. Paul Heal/Matt Heal took the win having, at one point, been the fastest of all crews. Bending a wheel on one of the Caerwent kerbs being their only problem.
Simon Harris/Phil Sanders managed to pass Graham Dance/Michael Gilbey for second place in the final stages.
