Route: 60 Miles
Venue: Sweet Lamb
Starters: 66
Winners: Gareth Lloyd/Llinos Jones Davies (Ford Escort)
British Historic Championship regular Gareth Lloyd demonstrated his versatility as a driver when he and navigator Llinos Jones Davies took a clear win on an event that was demanding on both crew members.
They had led after the first section but then lost out to Byron Jones/James Morgan briefly after the second when they booked in early at one control. However they made amends on the next test and by the end of the fourth and final section they held a lead of almost two minutes.
Jones/Morgan finished in seventh place as they, along with many other crews, picked up large penalties for early arrival at an Intermediate Time Control on the final section.
Dafydd Evans/Carl Jones moved from seventh after the first section to fourth after the second, then third and ended up taking the runner up spot at the Finish. Nic Morris/Martin Phasey put in another solid performance to take third.
Top seeds Sean Crowley/Dale Furniss went out of the event with a blown head gasket on their Nissan Sunny, while Car Two, Clive Williams/Patrick Walsh succumbed to a broke suspension soon after the start. Previous winners Brian Jones/Ceri Davies also had a short rally, suffering a failed diff on their Escort.
David Neary/Terwin Williams led the Novice class and held ninth overall in their £100 Vauxhall Vectra after the first test, but went out with a split brake hose on the second. Michael Pugh/Paul Carroll would have taken the class win but booked in three minutes early on the final neutral section.
